For Families Experiencing Racism in Schools

Anti-Blackness, Anti-Latino, Anti-Asian, Anti-US can be and feel isolating.

You may be getting gaslit so often that you’re asking yourself, “Am I the problem?” and/or “Is my child the problem?”

We are here to tell you that you and your child are not. The pathology of systemic racism is that it is so common, pervasive, and normal, that to call it out, to stand against it, to fight back, is to be an adversary to society.

It is politically correct to be racist and live within these interconnected systems of oppression.

Until you make real connections with people who see, hear, trust, understand, and are willing to walk beside you even in the hardest of times. To affirm that you saw what you saw, and heard what you heard. That your feelings, instincts and experiences are valid.

That you do not have to fight alone. You do not have to be alone in your activism for our collective rights ever again.

Education without Oppression is a movement, a coalition, and a community because we, like you, are fighting for the same thing: to be seen and treated as children, to experience education without racialized trauma, bullying, harassment, and attacks is their human right. They have a right to safety and freedom, to creativity, to learn and to make mistakes.

So do we, as their parents, who’ve often times experienced our own traumas. Because these systems were never created to support us and have been passed down, generation after generation, as edicts of white supremacist ideologies formed into institutions.

If you came here to become part of the community, we welcome you.

If you came here because you need us to show up and support you as advocates, we welcome you.

If you came here because you didn’t have anywhere else to turn, we welcome you.

This is for you. This is for us.

Education without Oppression is designed to offer community, advocacy, activism, and support for Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, and other diverse bodies experiencing racism, discrimination, retaliation, and bullying in public schools.

Our children deserve opportunities and access to learning that is free from trauma, oppression, and harassment. As parents and guardians, we have the right to know and ensure that the people who are supposed to enrich and support our children’s learning, aren’t weaponizing their race, language, and cultures - making schools a place of violence and harm. We deserve to be supported in our activism without retaliation and threats.

If you are here to support our mission, be available and ready to show up how we need you to in order to support the shared goal of trauma and racism-FREE educational experiences and environments in public schools. Welcome.
