How important is socialization to you and what does it mean?
When we only think of kids learning how to interact with others in school, we’re missing a lot of what they can learn in the world around them. Kids are always learning, whether it’s through a smile, a conversation, a book, or a new experience. Socializing isn’t just something that happens in the classroom; it happens everywhere. School is just one place where kids practice getting along with others. The way kids socialize can be different for each one of them, and it can be both positive and difficult at times. Talking things through, arguing, and being creative helps kids understand themselves and the world around them, but sometimes it can also hurt their confidence and well-being.
Bullying, especially when it’s based on race, is still a form of socializing—but it’s not the kind of socializing we want for our children. This raises an important question: What kind of social experiences do you want your kids to have, and how can you help make sure they get those experiences, both in school and out of school?
